Peugeot introduced the new coupe, based on its C-segment 406 sedan, at the 1996 Paris Motor Show. Unsurprisingly, it was an instant hit, winning numerous design awards across the motor show circuit. Perhaps the definitive form of the 406 Coupe is the 3-liter V6.

From 1997 to 2005, PininFarina built over 100,000 Peugeot 406 Coupés. The Calibra and the Audi TT sold better (on a more global market), but the former pretty much dates from a previous generation and the latter was a two-seater. Compared to the 406 saloon, the coupé is of course somewhat more aggressive, but also far more sculptural.
